HijackThis is a free utility which quickly scans your Windows computer to find settings that may have been changed by spyware, malware or other unwanted programs. HijackThis creates a report, or log file, with the results of the scan. This is a fantastic little program that was originally created by Merijn, and later sold to Trend-Micro. This program is used to detect things that have been hijacked and remove the hijacker. If you have removed everything from MSCONFIG, and you are not using more memory than you have, but the computer still responds slowly, run this program. The most common things to get hijacked are going to be your internet browser and the Explorer shell, by removing all the things that have attached themselves to them, you can increase the overall speed of your computer. Be warned though, the program will detect all changed items, even the one that you did on purpose, so be careful about just removing everything that Hijackthis finds.
